What is an Alloy Wheel?

Alloy metals provide superior strength and dramatic weight reductions over ferrous metals such as steel, and as such they represent the ideal material from which to create a high performance wheel. In fact, today it is hard to imagine a high performance road vehicle that doesn't utilize the benefits of alloy wheels.

The alloy used in PRIMO Wheels is a blend of aluminium and other elements.

What is the difference between a Wheel and a Rim?

Rims are the outer "rim" of the wheel. They are like a donut or a ring (they look like a giant wedding band). Now if you take a "Centre" (it looks like a dinner plate with holes in it) and put it inside the rim, VOILA! You have a wheel. "Center" plus "Rim" equals "Wheel".

You need both rims and a center to make a wheel. The Tire on the other hand is the part made of rubber.

In PRIMO Wheels the center and the rim are not made separately, they are casted as "One-Piece". From a consumer's standpoint, the casting process involved with a one-piece alloy offers a wheel of the finest quality with the greatest diversity of style and design. In the short-term the price you pay for a one-piece alloy will most likely be higher. However, in the long-run you will have a wheel that will last a lifetime.

What are the performance benefits of PRIMO Aluminum Alloy Wheels?

While many people choose alloy wheels for their beauty, there are equally important performance benefits to be derived including:

1. Reduced Unsprung Weight Compared to Steel Wheels:

This is one of the most critical factors affecting a vehicle's road holding ability. Unsprung weight is that portion of a vehicle that is not supported by the suspension (i.e. wheels, tires and brakes) and therefore most susceptible to road shock and cornering forces. By reducing unsprung weight, PRIMO Aluminum Alloy Wheels provide more precise steering input and improved "turning in" characteristics.

2. Improved Acceleration and Braking

By reducing the weight of the vehicle's rotational mass, PRIMO Aluminum Alloy Wheels provide more responsive acceleration and braking. To better understand these benefits consider jogging with high class light weight sneakers as compared to ordinary heavy ones.

3. Added Strength / Rigidity:

The added strength and durability of a quality PRIMO Aluminum Alloy Wheel significantly reduces wheel / tire deflection in cornering. This is particularly critical with an automobile equipped with high performance tires where lateral forces may approach 1.0g. The extra strength provides longevity as well as effecting tire wear in a positive manner.

4. Increased Brake Cooling:

The metals in PRIMO Aluminum Alloy Wheels are excellent conductors of heat - improving heat dissipation from the brakes - reducing risk of brake fade under demanding conditions. Additionally, PRIMO Wheels are designed to allow more cooling air to flow over the brakes.

5. Enhanced Balancing:

PRIMO Wheels are "One-Piece Alloy Wheels" , which enhances their balancing. One-piece wheels retain their balancing by absorbing shocks from the road, whereas, steel wheels due to their two-piece construction go out of balance. Furthermore, two-piece wheels with their rolled outer are extremely soft and bend very easily on getting a shock. State-of-the-art High speed CNC machining further enhances the balancing of the wheels. All in all, PRIMO Wheels are built to ensure the most comfortable, satisfying and smoothest drive.

6. Rust Free Composition:

Unlike steel wheels, PRIMO Aluminum Alloy wheels are not susceptible to corrosion. This results in not only their longer life but also of the tire which is mounted onto them.

What sizes are PRIMO Wheels available in?

PRIMO Wheels are currently available in 12", 13", 14" and 15" sizes. Designs in 17" size will be introduced shortly. All the designs are made to fit all vehicles.

12" and 13" sizes are usually preferred for smaller vehicles. But size is no restriction if the tires of the vehicle are changed accordingly; for example by using a larger diameter wheel with a lower profile tire. This concept is called Plus Sizing . By using a larger diameter wheel with a lower profile tire it's possible to properly maintain the overall diameter of the tire, keeping odometer and speedometer changes negligible.

How are PRIMO Wheels made?

All PRIMO Wheels are made using the finest materials and workmanship available. The process begins with the use of finest Aluminum Alloy which is melted at approximately 1300 degree F and constantly tested for purity. Wheels are cast using the latest technology which enables the manufacturing of a lightweight alloy wheel. After the casting operation, each part is heat-treated to T-6 hardness for maximum strength and durability.

The wheel is then sent to the Machine Shop, where each part is turned to precise tolerances on a CNC Lathe with a diamond coated cutter, which results in a bright, luxurious finish. It's also here that the lug holes, rivets holes and valve stem holes are drilled with CNC drills to ensure the proper fit. The next step in quality control is the hi-pressure water submersion test. Each wheel is tested in this process to guarantee that all PRIMO Wheels are leak free.

The final step of the manufacturing process is when a powder coat is electrostatically applied, giving each wheel increased durability and a high luster finish. The result is a finished wheel that is sure to retain a quality appearance for a lifetime.

Have PRIMO Wheels been tested?

All PRIMO Wheels are made and tested according to the Japanese VIA Standard and the German TUV standard. 10 times tougher conditions than maximum road forces are applied onto the wheels while conducting the following tests.

Laboratory Tests
1. Spectrometer Analysis
2. Micro Structure Analysis
3. Tensile Test
4. Salt Spray Test

Quality Tests
1. Impact Resistance Test
2. Cornering Bending Endurance Test
3. Dynamic Radial Load Endurance Test

How should I care for my PRIMO Wheels?

We are proud to say that if the PRIMO Wheels are properly installed and used according to the instructions provided they shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for their lifetime.

1. To obtain efficient and satisfactory results, get your car Wheels balanced at the reliable services. To prevent damage to Wheel paint, care should be taken while mounting the balance setting weight.

2. Use nuts of the right size and proper quality. These should not misalign the rims on tightening. Mount the nuts correctly and use the correct torque value (90-110 Nm).

3. In order to avoid rotational problems with your PRIMO Wheels, do not drive your car at high speed on hollow or earthwork roads.

4. The Wheels should not be subjected to misuse, negligence, racing / track use, improper installation or accidents.

5. The Wheels must be adequately covered during work with welding machines or work of similar nature in the garage.

6. Clean your Wheels after they have been allowed to cool down, with a soft brush or sponge using soft soap or car shampoo. Abrasive material, corrodente, metal cleaning agent, solvent added detergent and polishing and rubbing compounds should not be used as they damage the surface finish of the wheel. The easiest way to combat brake dust and road salt is to clean the wheels often, especially the front wheels. An occasional light coat of wax will make cleaning easier.

What are bolt patterns?
The bolt pattern or bolt circle is the diameter of an imaginary circle formed by the centers of the wheel lugs. Bolt patterns can be 4, 5, 6, or 8 lug holes. A bolt circle of 4x100 would indicate a 4 lug pattern on a circle with a diameter of 100mm.
